Song Thrush Turdus philomelos

This is a most aptly named bird with its varied and powerful song of clear whistles heard for much of the year in every garden where there bushes or hedges fro nesting and stones to hammer open the shells of snails. The song thrush has the curious habit of standing with its head on one side while looking for worms. This ground feeder is olive-brown with a cream-coloured breast flecked with dark brown spots and streaks, and is not to be confused with the bigger and greyer mistle thrush. Medium small (22cm).
