Wren Troglodytes troglodytes

This shy tiny ground feeding brown-barred bird with a short up-cocked tail is found everywhere in Britain and is almost as popular as the robin. More often heard than seen, for, despite its small size, it has a prolonged stuttering scold and a still more prolonged rattling warbling song of astonishing power which terminates in an explosive trill. Its flight is in short distances on rapidly moving wings. Very small (9cm).
