Dunnock (Hedge Sparrow) Prunella modularis

Inconspicuous streaky brown plumage with a grey head, the habits of this oft overlooked garden bird are equally inconspicuous other than that of continually shuffling its wings. Though often found beneath the bird table or feeder, supplementing its insect and worm diet with spilt seeds, you will rarely find it venturing onto the table itself. Neither is its warbling repeated song at all remarkable, apart from a loud single piping note. Small (15cm).
