NIGER SEED

NIGER SEED
Often used as a ‘tonic’ for birds, oil rich niger seed is becoming increasingly popular and has helped reverse the fortunes of the once diminishing goldfinch.
Offering niger seed is the most effective way of attracting this most colourful of residents and it is also popular with other species such as greenfinch, siskins, dunnocks, and if you are lucky, even redpoll.
It is recommended for year round feeding with regular amounts for those wishing to retain their precious goldfinches, once supplies stop they will look somewhere else.
Being extremely fine, this seed would easily blow off a table and flow straight through a conventional seed feeder, so the recommended feeding method is with a special Niger Seed Feeder.

Peanuts are a firm favourite of all birds but in particular tits, finches, woodpeckers and nuthatches and provide excellent year round high energy, protein and oils so necessary in the busy spring and summer and absolutely essential in the winter.
Certified Aflotoxin safe for birds, these selected peanuts are of premium quality. As fledglings receiving food from a parent can only manage smaller pieces, it is most important that nuts are only offered from a wire-mesh feeder particularly during the breeding season.
Alternatively offer our Peanut Granules, which are fledgling safe.

This edible kernel of the sunflower seed, offers the highest calorific value of any individual seed for wild birds. They are both irresistible and 100% edible, leaving very little mess in the garden.
This is an excellent very high energy content food with year round appeal for a wide variety of birds. Whether it is fed from a seed feeder, table or the ground top ups will be needed far more frequently than with most other bird foods to retain the high level of species it will attract.
