Watch the birdy!

Garden Birds in Nottinghamshire are in for a treat this summer thanks to the photography skills of local wildlife enthusiasts and a partnership between Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and Walter Harrison & Sons, a Nottingham based bird food supplier.

Last month the two organisations launched the ‘Garden Friends’ wild bird photography competition and received 48 interesting and high quality photographs of garden birds from local amateur photographers. The birds featured in the photographs ranged from robins to sparrow hawks and there was also a yellow hammer – more usually associated with farmland.

All photographs entered into the competition were reviewed by a judging panel comprising John Tidmarsh, a keen birder from the Wildlife Trust’s membership team and Stewart Halford of Walter Harrison & Sons.

Talking about the short listing process Stewart Halford, the Sales Manager of Walter Harrison & Sons said;

“I was amazed at the quality of the photographs entered into the competition; there are some really talented amateur photographers in Nottinghamshire.”

Short listed entrants were judged by local photographer Richard Rogers whose photography skills are showcased on the interpretation boards at Attenborough Nature Centre and regularly feature in Wildlife Trust publications.

The winners of the three age categories have now been chosen and they will be awarded with their prizes at a ceremony at Attenborough Nature Centre on Saturday 16th June at 2pm. The prizes consist of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust merchandise and high quality bird food and accessories from the Walter Harrison & Sons ‘Garden Friends’ range. The first prize is a ‘Garden Friends’ gourmet bird feeding kit containing enough food to keep a garden full of birds happy for a year, so Nottinghamshire’s garden birds will be in for a real treat. Walter Harrisons’ ‘Garden Friends’ range is designed to attract the wildest variety of species to your garden and includes a diverse range of products such as Deluxe Wild Bird Mix, Energy No Mess, Song Bird Mix, Robin Energy Mix , Mealworm Banquet and jumbo suet cakes. The ‘Garden Friends’ range is available to purchase at Attenborough Nature Centre and pet shops nationwide and every purchase made helps raise funds for Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s work at Attenborough Nature Reserve / Centre.
